Abstract

The purpose of the article is to identify structural changes in the agricultural sector resulting from the application of the CAP. In the study is used an approach based on PEST-analysis as a tool for identifying changes in the environment in which agriculture is developing. The basic source of data for the analysis is the database collected by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The accession to the EU has made a positive impact on the development of Bulgarian agriculture. There is growth in the added gross value generated in the sector, labour productivity and investment. Data analysis shows a real boost of trade with agricultural goods. During the examined period the investment in the sector has grown four times. The share in the total investment in the economy of the country has grown from 2.6% to 8.9%. Investment costs are incurred for modernization of farms, for environmental protection, upgrading of equipment and for incorporating new technology, training, and acquisition of key competencies for farm management.
