Abstract

A comparative research has been carried out to allow us determine the quantities and the centres of accumulation of Pb, Cd, Zn and Cd in the vegetative and reproductive organs of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.). The accumulation depots follow the order: leaves > stems > roots > seeds. It can be concluded, that safflower is tolerant towards the heavy metals and could be successfully grown in regions of moderate level of contamination with heavy metals, without lowering the quantity and quality of the safflower seed and oil.
