1. Nagoya protocol on access to genetic resources and fair and equitable sharing of benefits, arising from their uilization

Nagoya Protocol on access to genetic resources and fair and equitable sharing of benefits, arising from their uilization was adopted on October 29, 2010, at the Tenth Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity, held in Nagoya, Japan. Nagoya Protocol establishes rules and procedures for access to genetic resources and benefit sharing between countries, supplying and using these resources. It is expected to contribute to reducing of biodiversity loss and stop the illegal utilization of genetic resources worldwide. Object of the Protocol is only natural genetic resources of microbial, plant and animal origin without artificial change in their genotypes. The implementation of the Nagoya Protocol will enhance the benefits of the utilization of genetic resources and reinforce the study and technology development and innovation in this area and allow effective utilization of public funds for gene banks, botanical gardens, academic and applied research.
