Abstract
The present paper is a result of a vast study on the research activities at the Agricultural University – Plovdiv for a three-year period, from 2007 to 2009. The assessment was made in five research areas: Social Sciences and Humanities; Life Sciences; Mathematics and Computer Science; Technical Sciences; Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine; Healthcare and Sport. After the profound evaluation of the human resources, of the scientific results for the studied period, the financial provisions, the state of the scientific environment and organization of the work, a summarized SWOT analysis of the research activities of the Agricultural University – Plovdiv was performed. The strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats were identified. Ways and measures were outlined for overcoming the detected weaknesses concerning: financial provisions for research, development of scientific potential, the infrastructure and the material and technical equipment of the Agricultural University – Plovdiv; the scientific results and enhancing the contribution of science to industry; encouraging the participation in international programs and projects.
